April 15th Tax Deadline Fast Approaching
Filed in Breaking News on Apr.06, 2009
It’s tax time and the time frame for filing your tax returns is extremely short. Here are a few tips to help you if you’re one of the last minute filers:
- Consider filing your tax return online using the www.irs.gov website. This way you can cut out time waiting at the post office with all the other last minute filers.
- Carefully check your social security number and other information entered into the tax form for accuracy. If you have not entered your information correctly, those errors could delay your tax refund.
- If you are self-filing, make sure you check the math on your tax form. Use a calculator and have a trusted friend or relative double check the math figures.
- Request an extension from the IRS. If you fail to file your tax return on time, having an extension will save you money on penalties.
- DO NOT respond to any email that allegedly comes from the IRS. The IRS rarely contacts people via email. If you receive an email claiming to be from the IRS it is most likely a scam. If you’re not sure, call the IRS and ask them if they contacted you.
